Amazon is where a lot of Gulf shoppers start looking before they buy anything at all. The company opened in Seattle in 1994 as an online bookstore. It reached this region by acquisition rather than by launch. Amazon bought the Dubai marketplace Souq.com in 2017 for 580 million dollars, then swapped the name over one market at a time. Souq.com UAE became Amazon.ae on 1 May 2019. Souq.com Saudi Arabia became Amazon.sa on 17 June 2020. Egypt followed on 1 September 2021, which ended the Souq brand.
The catalog runs across electronics, groceries, beauty, home and kitchen, fashion, baby, pet supplies and car accessories. The Amazon.ae Global Store adds items shipped in from Amazon US, UK and Germany that nobody stocks locally, which is often the only way to get a niche brand delivered to Dubai or Riyadh without a freight forwarder.
Two things about Amazon change how you hunt for a discount here. Most listings are run by third-party sellers, so the price, the delivery speed and the return terms can all differ between two listings of the identical product. And discounts usually sit on the product rather than on the basket. That is why a single sitewide Amazon code almost never exists, and why anyone promising you one is guessing.
Prime costs AED 16 a month or AED 140 a year in the UAE, and SAR 16 or SAR 140 in Saudi Arabia, VAT included, according to Amazon's own help pages. Without Prime, an Amazon.ae order generally has to reach AED 100 to qualify for free standard delivery. Prime also gates the member-only sale events. Clipped coupons are normally limited to one per customer and one unit per order, which means buying four of something usually discounts a single one of them.
Use your bank card offer
This is the biggest lever in the Gulf and the one most shoppers forget. During Prime Day 2026, Amazon UAE ran up to 20 percent extra for ADCB credit card holders and up to 10 percent for Mastercard holders, applied at checkout. Amazon runs instant bank discounts at White Friday too. Check your bank's offers page before you pay, then see whether it beats or stacks with the qponi listing.
Time the expensive purchase
White Friday in late November is Amazon.ae's deepest sale of the year and lives at amazon.ae/whitefriday. Prime Day sits mid-year and is Prime members only. Ramadan, Eid, back-to-school in August and September, and the 11.11 sale fill in the rest of the calendar. A laptop bought in a quiet month is usually a laptop bought at the wrong time.
Do the Prime math honestly
At AED 140 a year, Prime pays for itself if you order more than roughly once a month, or if you buy one substantial item during a member-only event. If you order twice a year, skip the membership and clear the AED 100 free delivery threshold by adding a cheap consumable to the basket instead.
Set up Subscribe & Save on the boring items
Detergent, nappies, coffee pods, pet food and cleaning supplies. Scheduling them gives you a standing discount on top of the shelf price. On Amazon.com the discount climbs from 5 percent to 15 percent once five or more subscriptions arrive in the same month at the same address, so people batch their delivery dates. One catch worth knowing: the percentage applies to the price on the day the item ships, not the price you saw when you subscribed. Glance at the reminder email before each delivery.
