About Crocs

Crocs began in 2002 when three friends from Colorado brought a foam boating clog to a boat show in Fort Lauderdale and sold every pair they had. The material is the whole story. Croslite is a closed-cell resin rather than a rubber or a plastic, which is why the shoes weigh almost nothing, do not absorb water and mould slightly to your foot as they warm up.

The Classic Clog is still the biggest seller two decades later. Around it sit sandals, slides, flip flops, LiteRide and Echo platforms, and a large kids range. Jibbitz, the small charms that clip into the holes, turned a functional shoe into something people customise, and they are cheap enough that most orders end up with a handful in the basket.

Crocs work particularly well in the Gulf. They rinse clean, dry in minutes, handle pool decks and beaches, and survive sand better than any leather sandal. Hospital and hospitality staff across the region wear them for the same reason: eight hours standing on hard floors.

Sizing runs in whole sizes with a relaxed fit by design. If you are between sizes, the standard advice is to size down rather than up, because the foam gives as it warms. The kids range runs closer to true size than the adult range does.

Tips to save more

• Buy the Jibbitz in the same order. Charms are cheap individually and the 10 percent applies to them, so adding a pack to a clog order costs less than buying them later on their own.

• Size down if you are between sizes. Croslite softens with body heat and a pair that feels snug in the box loosens after an hour. A pair that feels roomy in the box will slip.

• Skip the limited editions when using the code. The collaboration drops are excluded, and if one is in your basket the code may fail on the whole order.

• The kids range is where the real value sits. Children outgrow shoes in a season, and a pair that can go in the pool, to the beach and to school is doing three jobs.

• Do not leave them in a parked car. Croslite is heat-reactive by design, and a Gulf dashboard in July will genuinely warp a pair out of shape.

• LiteRide costs more and is worth it if you stand all day. The insole is softer than the Classic and holds its shape longer under constant weight.
