About Dabdoob

Dabdoob is the biggest toy app in the Gulf. It was founded in Kuwait in 2017 and built app-first rather than as a website with an app bolted on, which is still how most of its orders come in. It sells across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

The catalogue runs past 5,000 products from international toy brands, spread across more than 40 categories: arts and crafts, action toys, ride-ons, dolls, board games, construction sets, educational toys and costumes. Baby gear, school bags and party supplies fill out the rest.

Gift wrapping is the feature that keeps people coming back. You choose a wrap at checkout and it arrives ready to hand over, which removes the part of buying a birthday present that everyone finds annoying. Same-day delivery is available in the main cities.

Buying toys online has one recurring trap, which is age grading. The age on the box is a safety rating about choking hazards and small parts, not a difficulty rating. A four year old can enjoy a toy graded 6+ under supervision, and a six year old will find a 3+ toy boring within a day.

The current Dabdoob code gives 10 percent off sitewide in Saudi Arabia.

Payment options cover cards, Apple Pay and the buy-now-pay-later services that have become standard in the Gulf. That matters more in this category than most, because toy spending clusters into a few expensive weeks around birthdays, Eid and the start of the school year rather than spreading evenly.

How to use a coupon

1. Copy the Dabdoob code from this page. It is issued for Saudi Arabia.

2. Open Dabdoob through our link so the code is tracked to your session.

3. Add your toys and gifts on the app or the website.

4. Enter the code in the promo field at checkout.

5. Check the 10 percent came off, then pick your gift wrap if you want one.

Tips to save more

• Order gifts a week early, not the night before. Same-day delivery exists but it sells out around Eid and school holidays, which is exactly when you need it.

• Read the age grading as a safety rating. The number on the box is about small parts, not difficulty. Buy for the child's interest and supervise, rather than buying down.

• Gift wrapping costs less than doing it yourself badly. It is added at checkout and the 10 percent applies to the order before it.

• Buy the batteries at the same time. Nothing ruins a birthday like a toy that needs four AAs at nine in the evening.

• Shipping is the weak point in the reviews. Check the delivery fee against your basket and consolidate into one order rather than three small ones.

• Build a wishlist through the year. The app keeps it, and it is far easier to buy from a list in October than to invent a present in December.

• Check the brand, not just the character. Licensed characters appear on toys of wildly different quality, and the name on the box tells you more about how long it will survive than the cartoon on it does.
