Jeeny Coupons, Promo Codes & Discounts

Jeeny is a ride-hailing app built in Saudi Arabia. It launched in late 2013 as Easy Taxi, the first ride-booking app to enter the Saudi market, and rebranded to Jeeny in early 2018. The name is a play on the genie that grants wishes, chosen to land better locally than an English brand name would.

The company was set up in 2014 as a joint venture between iMENA Group and Rocket Internet, and is headquartered in Riyadh. It runs offices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, plus Amman in Jordan and Lahore in Pakistan, with several hundred staff. Investors include iMENA Group, Rocket Internet and Knuru Capital.

Positioning is the thing that separates Jeeny from the bigger names it competes with. It has always priced below the international apps rather than trying to match them on premium service, and the everyday commute is the trip it is built for rather than the airport run or the night out.

Jordan is the second market and it works differently. Jeeny entered Amman in February 2013, initially working only with licensed government cabs before adding private cars in late 2016. Pricing, currency and promotions are set separately from Saudi Arabia, which is why the codes are country-specific.

The app also runs Jeeny Xpress, a delivery service using the same driver network, and a driver-side app for people wanting to earn on the platform rather than ride on it.

There are two codes on qponi and they are not interchangeable. The Saudi code takes 40 percent off a ride, capped at SAR 8. The Jordan code takes 30 percent off, capped at 0.75 JD.

How to use a coupon

1. Pick the code that matches your country. One is for Saudi Arabia, the other for Jordan.

2. Copy it and open Jeeny through the link on qponi.com so the code registers.

3. Enter the code in the promotions or voucher section of the app before you book, not after.

4. Set your pickup and destination and request the ride as normal.

5. Check the fare estimate reflects the discount before you confirm. The saving stops at the cap, so it applies in full on a short trip and partially on a long one.

Tips to save more

• Apply the code before booking, not after. Ride-hailing apps deduct a voucher at the point the trip is requested, and there is no way to add one to a completed ride.

• The cap is the number that matters, not the percentage. Forty percent capped at SAR 8 pays out in full on a 20 riyal trip. On a 60 riyal trip you still only save 8, which works out at about 13 percent.

• Use it on short trips, not airport runs. Because of the cap, several short rides collect more total discount than one long one, assuming the code allows repeat use.

• Check the fare estimate against another app before booking. Jeeny competes on price rather than premium service, and on some routes it is cheaper even before a code.

• Do not use the Saudi code in Jordan or the other way round. The two markets run separate pricing and promotions, and the currencies differ, so a code from one will simply be rejected in the other.

• Book slightly ahead at peak times. Surge pricing applies to the fare before the discount, so a 40 percent code during a surge still leaves you paying more than an off-peak trip would have cost.

• Keep the app updated. Voucher fields and promotion sections move between releases, and an old build is a common reason a valid code appears not to work.
