Sandro is a Paris fashion label founded by Evelyne Chetrite in 1984, joined later by her son Ilan. It sits in the accessible luxury bracket, above the high street and below the designer houses, alongside Maje and Claudie Pierlot under the SMCP group.

The look is French and restrained. Tailored blazers, knitwear, tweed jackets, leather pieces and shirt dresses, mostly in black, cream, navy and camel. The menswear line is smaller than the womenswear but follows the same logic.

SMCP listed on the Paris stock exchange in 2017. The group's brands are sold through their own boutiques and department stores, and in the Gulf they appear in the major malls as well as online.

Sizing follows French conventions, meaning a Sandro 2 is roughly a UK 10 and the cut is narrow through the shoulder and waist. Knitwear runs closer to true size than the tailoring does.

In the Gulf, Sandro sits in the malls alongside the other SMCP labels and online through the regional site. Stock arrives on the European season calendar, which means winter coats land in September when it is still 40 degrees outside and get marked down in January just as they become wearable.

There are two Sandro codes on this page and the discount differs by country. Fifteen percent applies in the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. In Saudi Arabia the same code gives 10 percent.

Tips to save more

• French sizing is not UK sizing. A Sandro 1 is roughly a UK 8 and a 2 is roughly a UK 10. Check the measurements rather than the label if you have not bought the brand before.

• The two seasonal sales in January and June are steeper than the code. If you can wait, wait, then use the code on whatever full-price piece you still want.

• Look at Maje at the same time. Same parent group, similar price bracket, different design direction, and often the piece you want exists in both.

• Leather goods hold value better than the seasonal prints. If you are spending once, spend it on a bag or a jacket rather than a printed dress.

• Check the fabric composition on knitwear. Sandro's wool blends vary a lot between lines and the price does not always tell you which is which.

• Buy outerwear in January in the Gulf. The coats arrive in September on the European calendar and get discounted right as the weather turns cool enough to wear them.
