Anita Roddick opened the first Body Shop in Brighton in 1976 to support her family while her husband was travelling. She sold 25 products in refillable bottles because she could not afford more packaging, and that constraint became the brand's identity. The company campaigned against animal testing in cosmetics long before it was mainstream and was among the first to build a business around ethically sourced ingredients.

Community Fair Trade is the sourcing programme that still underpins the range. Shea butter from Ghana, sesame oil from Nicaragua, aloe from Guatemala. The Body Butters, Tea Tree line and Vitamin C range are the products people come back for.

Ownership has changed several times. L'Oreal bought the company in 2006, Natura sold it on, and Aurelius acquired it in 2023. The brand went through administration in the UK in 2024 and was bought out of it, with the international business continuing.

In the Gulf the range is the same as elsewhere but the gifting side is bigger. Gift sets sell heavily around Eid and the seasonal collections arrive earlier than in Europe.

There are two codes on this page and they are country-specific. One is for the UAE and one for Saudi Arabia, each giving 5 percent off all products. The Saudi offer is limited to the western region.

Tips to save more

• Buy during the multibuy, not instead of it. The Body Shop runs three-for-two and half-price offers constantly, and those are worth more than 5 percent. Use the code on top when the basket is already discounted.

• Body Butter in the 200ml tub is the best value in the range. The 50ml travel size costs nearly three times as much per millilitre and is only worth buying for a suitcase.

• Gift sets before Eid, not during. The seasonal sets sell through and the restock lands at full price with the good ones already gone.

• The Tea Tree range is the one to try if you have oily or breakout-prone skin in a humid climate. It is the brand's most consistently reviewed line.

• Check the expiry symbol on the back. The little open jar with a number is months after opening, and a body butter bought in a three-for-two you will not finish inside twelve months is not a saving.

• Refills are back in many stores. If there is a branch near you with a refill station, the per-millilitre cost beats anything a code delivers online.
